Trois Rivières is a city in Quebec, Canada. It has a population of about 24,000 people. It is situated on the Saint Lawrence River and located in the Mauricie region.
The city was founded in 1634 as Fort Trois-Rivières by Sieur de Maisonneuve. The name “Trois-Rivières” means “three rivers”. The three rivers are Saint-Maurice River, Saint-François River and Saint-Lawrence River.
In 1892, it was incorporated as a town and then later as a city in 1907. In 1961, its status was changed to that of an urban agglomeration (a census division) with its own mayor and council.
